Some categories have strong online access. Others have limits because of juvenile law, domestic abuse protections, civil commitment restrictions, or remote-access rules.

Cass County Court Records Fields
A court record is more than a name match. The Register of Actions is the chronological case history, and it can show filings, notices, hearings, orders, warrants, pleas, dispositions, judgments, and satisfactions. MCRO may also display public documents for eligible case types, but document availability depends on the case category and filing date. Street addresses, confidential comments, juvenile data, and protected identifiers are not shown remotely.

Cass County Court Records Access Laws

Restricted Cass County Court Records
Some Cass County records are public in part but not available through a remote public search. MCRO terms list Domestic Abuse Order for Protection cases and Harassment Restraining Order cases as unavailable online because of federal VAWA limits. Child protection and juvenile delinquency felony 16 case types are also excluded from remote MCRO access. Public documents in civil commitment cases are not available remotely, and party street addresses are not shown.
Expungement is another limit. Minnesota expungement seals eligible court records from public access, but it does not destroy the record. Some records may qualify for automatic expungement under Minn. Stat. 609A.015. Other cases use the petition process in Minn. Stat. 609A.03. For a Cass County criminal case, the filing is handled through the district court where the case was filed unless automatic processing applies.

Cass County Jail and Warrants
The Cass County Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff Bryan Welk and is located at 301 Minnesota Avenue W in Walker. The office provides law enforcement service, patrol, investigations, civil process, warrant service, and jail operations. The jail is a 60-bed facility that houses male and female inmates for up to one year. The jail roster is an official PDF, not an interactive database. It can be searched with browser or PDF find. The active warrant list is also a PDF. For incident reports, booking files, criminal files, and sheriff records that do not appear in the roster, the Sheriff's Records Division is the fallback. The Cass County Court file can show court charges and case events, while the sheriff record can show arrest, custody, or warrant facts. Those are related records, not the same file.
Cass County Marriage and Probate Records
Marriage records use a different custodian than court records. Cass County marriage licenses are handled by the Auditor-Treasurer. Applicants start through the Minnesota Official Marriage System, then both applicants normally appear at the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. A Cass-issued certified marriage certificate costs $9, and a mailed request should include both applicants' names before marriage, the marriage date, mailing address, and payment to the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer.
Divorce records are district court family records. Search them in MCRO by party name or case number, selecting Cass County and the Family category when helpful. Probate is also handled in Cass County District Court, not by a separate probate court. Probate case searches use the Probate or Mental Health category, with the same remote-access limits for confidential material.

Cass County Traffic Court Records
Traffic cases in Cass County are filed in District Court. Case details can appear in MCRO by citation number, case number, or name when remote access is allowed. Payment is handled through Minnesota Court Web Payment or the Court Payment Center, not through a county-run payment portal. Citations may take up to seven days from receipt before payment help or online payment is available.
A court traffic record is not the same as a state driver record. The court record shows the citation or case, charges, court dates, pleas, disposition, fine, balance, and failure-to-pay or failure-to-appear entries. A Minnesota DPS Driver and Vehicle Services record shows license history, convictions reported to DVS, suspensions, revocations, and driving-history data. DWI cases may also appear as criminal matters and connect to local Wellness Court when eligibility and sentencing fit.

Cass County Court Programs
Cass County has a strong local court detail that is not common in every county. Cass County District Court and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Tribal Court collaborate on Wellness Court. The program targets repeat substance-dependent and DWI offenders through a team approach in the court system. Participants commit to at least 18 to 24 months in an intense supervisory program. The courthouse itself also has a detailed history. Construction began in 1902, and the original building cost $29,500. Cass County records can lag behind real-time events. The weekly public court calendar is posted at 7:00 a.m. on business days and updated hourly, but printed calendars in courthouse lobbies or outside courtrooms have the most current daily details. The warrant PDF and jail roster are dated static files. A person with a possible warrant, a court date, or a custody issue should verify the status with the originating office before relying on a saved copy.
Local access also reflects geography. Cass County is rural, lake-heavy, and includes a substantial Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe presence.
