Search Cass County Court Records

The system is statewide, so the key local step is choosing Cass County in the court-location filter. MCRO covers public district court case information, hearing information, monetary judgment results, Registers of Actions, and online public documents when the record type and filing date qualify for remote access.
Use the Name tab for a broad party search, the Case Number tab when a Minnesota district court case number is known, the Citation Number tab for traffic and petty matters, and the Attorney tab for lawyer-based searches. For a public document, MCRO Document Search requires the exact case number. For docketed money judgments, Judgment Search uses debtor-name and docketed-date filters.
- Open MCRO Case Search and accept the public access terms by using the portal.
- Choose Name, Case Number, Citation Number, or Attorney based on the record you have.
- Open Additional Search Options and change Court Locations from Statewide to County, then select Cass.
- Use date of birth, filing date, case category, and case status filters only when they help narrow a large result set.
- Open Case Details and the Register of Actions to read events, hearings, filings, and outcomes.

Judgment Search is separate from the main case lookup because it focuses on debtor names, judgment status, and docketed judgment dates.
Cass County Court Record Types
Cass County District Court is the general-jurisdiction trial court for the county. The official court page says it has original jurisdiction over civil, family, probate, juvenile, criminal, and traffic cases filed in Cass County. Cass County Court Administration receives and processes Traffic, Criminal, Civil, Family, Juvenile, Probate, and Conciliation cases, so most local court record paths point back to that office when MCRO does not answer the question.
Some records are court records, while others are held by county departments. Divorce files are family cases in district court. Marriage certificates and marriage licenses are handled by the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer. Sheriff incident files, jail records, and many arrest documents are handled by the Sheriff's Office or its Records Division, not Court Administration.

Cass County Court Records Details
A Cass County court record is read through the case detail page and the Register of Actions. The Register of Actions is the chronological docket history. It can show when the complaint was filed, when notice was issued, when a hearing was set, whether a motion was filed, whether an order was entered, and how the case ended. The exact fields vary by case type.

Cass County Court Records Access
Minnesota court records are governed by the Minnesota Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch. Rule 4 states the broad public-access rule for court case records, subject to court rules, statutes, and court orders that restrict access. MCRO is a public convenience portal, but its own terms warn that online information is unofficial and remote access is more limited than courthouse terminal access.
Rule-based limits matter in Cass County because some case categories are not shown remotely even when a public counter search or direct Court Administration request may be different. MCRO terms list domestic abuse order for protection cases, harassment restraining order cases, child protection, juvenile delinquency felony 16 case types, public documents in civil commitment cases, party street addresses, and many comment fields as unavailable online.

Cass County Court Records Copies
Certified and exemplified copies are handled through Cass County Court Administration. MCRO terms state that records in MCRO are unofficial, so printed portal pages should not be treated as certified court documents. For a legal filing, title work, agency process, or formal proof of judgment, request the copy from Court Administration and identify whether a plain, certified, or exemplified copy is needed.

When requesting by mail, include the case number if known, party names, the document requested, the copy type, a return address, and payment if the court has quoted the amount. If the case is older, sealed, partly confidential, or hard to identify, call Court Administration before mailing a request.
Restricted Cass County Court Records
Not every Cass County court record is public online. Juvenile delinquency and child protection records have special limits under Minnesota law. Adoption records are normally confidential. Civil commitment documents are restricted in MCRO. Domestic abuse order for protection and harassment restraining order case types are not available in MCRO because of federal VAWA remote-access restrictions.
Expungement is also important. Minnesota Judicial Branch describes expungement as sealing court records from public access, not destroying the record. Some qualifying criminal records can move through automatic expungement under Minnesota law. Others require a petition under the criminal expungement process. A sealed or expunged Cass County case may not appear in an ordinary public court records search.
